The MSI GV62 is light, it is loud and it is very powerful. Weighing in at just under 5 pounds, it’s a relative lightweight for a laptop aimed firmly at gamers as well as business use. The chassis is constructed of black plastic that feels soft and comfortable, surrounding a color accented keyboard that is easy to use, comfortable and lit up with red LED lights. The touchpad is smooth, responsive and offers accented mouse buttons that are discrete.
Graphics come via an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 card coupled with 3 GB VRAM. The FHD IPS display is crisp and clear with a range of viewing angles with just one letdown – the colors aren’t as bright as they could be. Storage is an impressive 1 TB mechanical hard drive coupled with a 128 GB SSD and 16 GB memory.
The ports on offer include everything that a gamer would need – a secure lock slot, HDMI 2.0, mini display port, two USB-3. Ports, a USB-C port, an SD card reader, a USB 2.0 port, a power jack, and an ethernet connection.
Battery life isn’t great, lasting just over 2 hours at normal use so it isn’t going to be the easiest laptop to use on the go – keep it plugged in and you have a good all-around powerhouse.
